Critical Reflection

After weeks of preparation and work, the showcase was a great event to give recognition to those the teams who had put in tremendous efforts in this module. Even then, it was also a good place for those who were not nominated to present to show what they have done or learnt from this module.

Other than the organizing committee who put in their personal time to plan and execute this event smoothly, the presenting teams and audiences were also amazing with every presenter placing what they have learnt into good use, communicating and engaging with the cohort. Lessons on how to use eye contact, body movements and voice tones were put to good use.

Every of the videos shown were relate-able and from there, I learnt more about the different difficulties that my peers have faced in their workplace. Not only that, they tips given in the training videos were easy to remember and I thought they would be useful in our future workplaces.

All in all, the showcase was a great experience and I think it should remain as part of the curriculum.

  1. Dear Marcus,

Thank you for sharing your experience on the blog. I shared the same feelings as you for the teams being selected due to their efforts in this module. In the concept of the 5 Cs, i felt that most of teams were able to change their non-verbal cues according to their contexts. For example, if the slides show numbers, presenters will point to the numbers to ensure that the audience know which number are they talking about, which is commendable. Their presentations were very clear and concise, allowing the audiences to be focused. After all the presentations, will you be able to use these knowledge in your working industry? I wish you all the best for your examinations and IWSP. See you around!

    With regards,
    Padrick

  2. Dear Marcus,

Thank you for this concise and relevant post. Indeed, the Showcase not only celebrates the effort and hard work put forward by the students, but also provides an excellent platform for students to learn from one another.

It is also evident that there are many takeaways as far as presentation skills are concerned. From establishing good eye-contact, to being expressive through varying pitch, volume, intonation, and rhythm, and using facial expression and gestures effectively, all those present gleaned much from the teams' sharing.

Like you, I too feel that many of the tips from the videos will come in handy for HB students. I thoroughly enjoyed all the videos the students put together, particularly from the point of view of an audience (and not instructor where I need to adhere strictly to the rubric when viewing the videos).

All the best for your exams, and your upcoming IWSP!

    Best regards,
    Ms. Lim
